Volunteer standing next to pallets of food and drinks

Lots of people have swapped their usual jobs to help out where it's most needed in these unusual times.

Thom Howe is no exception. Thom normally works as a Public Rights of Way Assistant, ensuring our vast network of paths is kept in good condition. For the last few weeks he has been instrumental in the food packing operation at Derbyshire County Council's Community Response Unit, ensuring that vital food supplies get to those who need help.

"I feel humbled by the confidence shown in me by the council which has allowed me to be influential in how the operation works. I have been given the the opportunity to be part of a team that will make such a difference to the most vulnerable in society during this global pandemic and for that I am very grateful."
