Woman singing

Lucy James was asked to write a song about her experiences during lockdown for Derby Theatre's Reimagine 2020 Project,

Since then she has been busy writing and recording a moving new song called When It’s Over.

Overall the whole process of writing, recording, production, mixing and mastering took just over a week.

Lucy, who has had experience of life in care, said:

“I was asked to touch on my experience of lockdown so far, so my aim was to portray the idea that taking a moment to be stationary doesn't inherently mean a lack of progress in your life.

“I know that many care-experienced people may be facing a lot of internal upheaval as a result of today's world being so domestic, so I hope that this song reminds those people of how temporary our state of being is right now.”

You can listen to the song on Soundcloud.

 Lucy added:

“I think it's important to use this time to reflect on how we can strengthen our relationships in the future and be active participants in the lives of ourselves and others.

“Know that taking this time to grow, and to learn about making positive personal and societal changes, starts from within.”

Alongside being a singer-songwriter and working on her debut EP, Lucy is also taking part in a range of projects as part of the Young People's Network and Derby Theatre's Plus One Scheme. Both projects focus on projecting the voices and talents of care-experienced people.
